Tasting Plate

When the Recipe Redux theme came out for July- Beat the summer heat with “No cook meals”- I knew exactly whatrecipe” I had to share with you. I put recipe in quotes because this isn’t really a recipe, rather a formula.

Pair protein, carb, veggies and a little fat together and you have a balanced meal. Who says you have to cook everyday?!

Protein ideas:

  • hardboiled egg
  • canned salmon or tuna
  • hummus
  • nuts

Carbohydrate ideas:

  • brown rice crackers
  • whole-grain baguette, sliced
  • whole-grain tortilla chips

Add-ins:

  • in-season veggies
  • apples slices, cherries
  • 1-2 oz cheese

Tasting plates are great because they can showcase the flavors of what’s in season, be thrown together in minutes, and are the answer to those times when you have no idea what you want to eat.  Further, when the heat is on, I often have a smaller appetite. As long as I have the above components, I know I’m eating balanced. Then it’s ok when this:

  1. I really like this interpretation of a no cook meal. I do things like this all the time for meals, especially if I’m feeling lazy!
