My 90 Day Challenge

Hi All!

Revive and Blitz Conditioning are working on a 90 Day Challenge for Paul Letourneau and this is his story!

Have you ever given yourself a certain amount of time to achieve a goal? Sure you have. Most people set new goals, especially fitness/health related ones, every year on January 1st. I usually do the same.

Every year I tell myself that I’m going to get in better shape, work out 5 days a week, lose that extra belly fat and start eating much healthier. Every year I follow a routine for 5-6 months and then give up when I reach my ideal weight and look.

This year, on January 2012, I made some different choices. Since I was already in good shape, thanks to ongoing training with Chris, I decided that I would take a little more time for me, my relationship and my career. I decided to stop going into Blitz 5 days a week and only go in 3 days a week. This worked for me and kept me at my constant goal weight and look. I was happy. Then something happened…

In mid-February my relationship with my 2.5 year girlfriend started falling apart and I decided to stop going to the gym all together in order to focus on making things work. Things in that relationship got worse and before I knew it I was in the middle of a pretty ugly break up. During this time I completely stopped going to the gym, I worked more and continued to eat like I did when I was working out 5 days a week (which is a lot). It was a low point in my life and for some reason I thought that being around people that were happy, always there to help and would do anything to help me reach my goals wouldn’t help. I was wrong.

Since I stopped going to the gym in February, I have gained 25 pounds, have slept much less and feel much worse on a day to day basis. The crazy part is I’m not even that big of a guy!! I’m like many of you… A 6 foot something young profesional that works 9-5 and spends most of that time sitting behind a desk. I don’t get a whole lot of exercise during the day unless I get up and walk through City Center Mall to get a coffee or lunch.

So why am I telling you this?

Well, I’m fed up with being 25 pounds overweight. I’m tired of being tired all the time. I’m exhausted from not being able to think like I used to, run like I used to and be who I used to be when I was in the best shape of my life. And that my friends is exactly what this 90 Day Challenge is all about…..

90 days from June 8, 2012 is my 28th birthday and as a gift to myself I have vowed, in front of Chris and the Blitz team, that I will be in the best shape of my life and I will participate in their 8 hours of straight fitness fundraiser for the Bissell Center.

Here’s what I am going to do….

Starting on June 8, 2012 I will work out 5 days a week at Blitz Conditioning. I’ll join the 60 min Team Workouts every weekday at 7:15am and we will be following this training routine:

  • Monday – Legs & Whole Body
  • Tuesday – Back & Core
  • Wednesday – Whole Body Circuits
  • Thursday – Chest & Core
  • Friday – Arms/Shoulders & Whole Body

In addition to this I will try and run the Glenora stairs every weekend for 30-60 minutes and get at least 9 holes of golf in one evening a week.

But what about healthy eating?

As you know, if you’ve been reading all the great posts on this blog, working out is only half the battle. Healthy eating is the other half and without Blitz Conditionings partners at Revive Wellness, this challenge wouldn’t be as possible.

Revive, more accurately Nutritionist Robin Anderson, will be helping me build a simple and effective weight loss and muscle gain plan for this 90 day challenge. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be eating but through my Wednesday afternoon blog posts on here, I’ll be sharing the entire meal plan with you so that you can follow along if you like.

What I do know is that meal preparation takes time and although a little nervous, I’m sure Robin will help me (so that I can help you) find a way to create quick, easy and healthy meals that will help me get to my goals.

So, to recap….

The 90 Day Challenge will go from June 8, 2012 (this Friday!) to September 8, 2012 (that’s my 28th birthday) where I’ll be participating in an 8 Hour Fitness Fundraiser for the Bissell Center. 8 Hours!!!! Ya, I’m a little scared.

To get me there, and to help me lose the 25 pounds i’ve built up around my waist, I’ll be training at 7:15am weekdays in the Team Workout class and working with a nutritionist to fine tune my meals.

I will also be blogging on here every Wednesday afternoon to share with you my progress, my ups and downs, thoughts and of course everything in between (like if I throw it all out the window and go out for a night on the town, drink 8 beers and have a pile of chicken wings)… whatever it is, I’ll let you know. I’m human and live the 9-5 work life like so many of you so if I can do all this and still have a social life then you can too.

Oh, and for the ‘judges’ out there… Below are my before photos and my weigh in results. We shot these today and will continue to take photos and weigh in every week until the challenge ends.

214 pounds  |  22.3% Body Fat  |  60.3% Hydration  |  43% Muscle Mass

As you can see, I’m not obese by any means and most of my weight is held in my belly and my ‘love handles’ (I hate those damn things!) like most 20-30 year olds that like the occasional beer and night out.

My goals are as follows: 190 pounds  |  16% Body Fat  | 75% Hydration  | 50% Muscle Mass

Wish me luck, follow along and PLEASE feel free to comment or send me an email.
